Access

By car

• From the highway in Brussels take E40/A10 direction Oostende
• In Oostende, at the first roundabout, follow direction Blankenberge (N34)
• Drive under the viaduct and take a left at the fourth set of traffic lights (direction Vismijn)
• Pass the tram rails and take a left in the second street (Nieuwewerfkaai)
• At the roundabout go to the right and drive trough the Vismijnlaan until the next roundabout (Sprotplein)
• Drive through the Vismijn
• At the end of the Quai is the building of the Vismijn (on the ground floor is a bar called the Kantine, on the top floor a green glass construction)
• The Coast Guard secretariat is at the first floor (entrance on the side of the warehouses)

Note: for the gps: use "Kantinestraat"' (old street name) if "Maritiem Plein" is not recognized.

By bus

• Take line 9 (Groenendijk – SAS Slijkens) at quai 5 at Ostend Station
• Get off at the Stop "Sluisplein"
• From here you need to go by foot (approximately 20 minutes)
• Go back to the big road you just crossed while on the bus (Dr. Moreauxlaan)
• With your back to the shop at the corner (“Keukens Loeters”) you can see the Vismijnlaan in front of you
• Cross the Dr Moreauxlaan over and follow the Vismijnlaan (parallel with the fairwayl)
• At the end of this street, walk throug the Vismijn
• At the end of the Quai is the building of the Vismijn (on the ground floor is a bar called the Kantine, on the top floor a green glass construction)
• The Coast Guard secretariat is at the first floor (entrance on the side of the warehouses)

 

By tram

• Take the coast tram (out of Oostende station take direction Knokke)
• Get off at the stop ‘Weg naar Vismijn’
• From here you need to go by foot (approximately 15 minutes)
• With your back to the shop at the corner (“Keukens Loeters”) you can see the Vismijnlaan in front of you
• Cross the Dr Moreauxlaan over and follow the Vismijnlaan (parallel with the fairwayl)
• At the end of this street, walk throug the Vismijn

By bicycle

At Oostende railway station you can hire a bicycle for free. Go to the parking Churchillkaai, you'll recognize the bicycle by their red-yellow colour. When presenting your id, you can hire a bike from 7h30 until 19h30 (in July and Agust until 21h).

• Cycle in the direction of the tram stop (keep the railway station at your left side), follow the Brandariskaai and drive under the bridge
• Follow the cycling path alongside the Maria Hendrikapark
• At the hospital AZ Damiaan, take a left over the zebra crossing
• Keep following the cycling path, it goes under a tunnel and then over a bridge
• Keep going straight ahead, at your left side you have the tram tracks and the marina
• At the tram stop “Weg naar vismijn” cross the tracks (careful!) to the left
• With your back to the shop at the corner (“Keukens Loeters”) you can see the Vismijnlaan in front of you
• Follow the vismijnlaan, always straight ahead
• At the end of this street, cycle through the Vismijn

By boat

Out of the centre of Ostend there is a ferry service for pedestrians and cyclist to the other side of the fairway, where the Coast Guard Secretariat is based. The ferry service is free and leaves at the North Sea Aquarium at the Visserskaai.

  • Out of Ostend railway station, goto the right (direction city centre)
  • Cross the first or second bridge
  • Take another right
  • Walk along the fairway and you'll see the pier at the North Sea Aquarium
